HOW TO OBTAIN DCHP AUTOMATICALLY.
YOUR PARTICULAR OPERATING SYSTEM'S
INSTRUCTIONS MAY VARY SLIGHTLY.
WINDOWS 2000/XP
- From the Start menu, select "Settings", then choose "Network and Dial-up Connections".
- Right-click on "Local Area Connection" and select "Properties".
- Select "TCP/IP" and click "Properties".
- Select "Obtain an IP address automatically".
- Click "OK" for the TCP/IP Properties window.
- Click "OK" for the Local Area Connection window.
- Restart your computer.
WINDOWS 95, 98 AND WINDOWS ME

From the Start menu, select "Settings", then choose "Control Panel".

Double-click on "Network".

Under the "Configuration" tab, double-click on the TCP/IP component for your ethernet adapter
(not TCP/IP ->Dial-up Adapter).

On the IP Address tab, click on "Obtain an IP address automatically".

On the Gateway tab, click on the "Installed gateway address" (if there is one) and then "Remove".

On the DNS tab, click on each of the installed DNS addresses (if any) and then "Remove". Then click on "Disable DNS".

On the WINS tab, click on "DHCP for WINS"
- Click "OK" for the TCP/IP Properties window.
- Click "OK" for the Network window.
- Click "Yes" to Restart your computer
WINDOWS NT
Before making any changes to the network settings, ensure that you have your Windows NT installation CD or diskettes.
- Go to Start;
- Click Settings
- Click Control Panel
- Double-click Network
- Click Protocols
- Highlight TCP/IP for your Network card
- Click Properties
- Select Obtain an IP address from a DHCP Server
- Click the DNS tab
- Make sure your Host Name is your computer name
- Type in startouch.net as the Domain
- Click WINS Address
- Unselect Enable DNS for Windows Resolution, if selected
- Click OK for TCP/IP Properties
- Click OK on Network
- Restart your computer
MACINTOSH O/S, VERSION 9.x.
- From the Apple Menu, choose "Control Panels", then "TCP/IP.
- Set the Connect via selection to "Ethernet built-in".
- Set the Configure selection to "Using DHCP server".
- All other fields should be blank.
- Close the TCP/IP Control Panel.
- Click "Save" to save the changes to your current configuration.
MACINTOSH O/S, X 10.1.x
You'll find the network properties and utilities in Mac OS X are quite different from what you have been used to in OS 9 and previous versions. Follow the instructions below to configure your computer

Open the System Preferences program from the Dock (System Preferences can also be opened from the Apple Menu)

Click Network

Make sure your Ethernet card is displayed and change the Configure menu to Using DHCP
You do not need to specify a DHCP Client ID, Domain Name Servers, or Search Domains

Click "Apply Now"

Network Utility - Mac OS X comes with a Network Utility to assist in troubleshooting. You will find it in your root drive under Applications -> Utilities

Click the Network Utility icon to open it
The Network Utility allows you to obtain network information (hardware address, IP address, Link status, and Transfer statistics) The Network Utility will also help you perform troubleshooting with tools like Ping, Traceroute, and Lookup (nslookup)
